On Monday Night Football, the Pittsburgh Steelers defeat the New York Giants after a fierce battle thanks to a late interception.

On Monday night at Acrisure Stadium, the Pittsburgh Steelers defeated the New York Giants 26–18. The game was characterized by strong defensive plays and a spectacular special team performance.

Chris Boswell of Pittsburgh and Greg Joseph of New York each made three field goals to make it 9–9 at the half as the game began slowly with both sides finding it difficult to turn drives into touchdowns.

With 4:38 remaining in the third quarter, however, Pittsburgh’s Calvin Austin III took a Giants punt around the edge of the defenders and down the sideline for a 73-yard touchdown, bringing the game to life.

And the 25-year-old wasn’t finished; he grabbed a 29-yard catch from quarterback Russell Wilson on the Steelers’ very next drive at the start of the fourth quarter, increasing Pittsburgh’s lead to 14.

The NFL reports that Austin III became just the second player to record both receiving and punt return touchdowns in the same game in the previous three seasons. The other guy, Kalif Raymond, accomplished the feat during the Detroit Lions’ rout of the Tennessee Titans on Sunday.

Austin III’s work ethic and willingness to stay prepared were commended by Steelers linebacker Alex Highsmith following the game.
Highsmith described what he told the receiver following his first touchdown, saying, “I went up to him after he scored the touchdown and said it was a matter of time and I knew he was going to get it soon.”

It was amazing to watch him score those two touchdowns today, especially the punt return, since he is a fantastic guy who works hard every day, is humble, level-headed, and humble. He is a tremendous player, and once more, that is simply fantastic for him. I’m thrilled for him.

However, the Giants did try to rally, and just under two minutes later, rookie running back Tyrone Tracy Jr. ran 45 yards for an incredible score.

The visitors’ two-point conversion effort after the score was unsuccessful, though, and quarterback Daniel Jones was clearly irritated after wide receiver Malik Nabers was tackled. The Giants team was obviously confused.

Jones also fumbled after Pittsburgh’s TJ Watt punched the ball loose in a strip sack, forcing a turnover after Wilson mishandled the ball on his own 34-yard line, giving New York the ideal opportunity to build a comeback defense.
To force a punt and give the squad one last opportunity at a comeback, the Giants defense came through one last time. However, Steelers cornerback Beanie Bishop Jr. intercepted Jones’ throw, his third in two games, and Pittsburgh managed to hold on for the tense victory.

Wilson, who took Justin Fields’ spot as Pittsburgh’s starting quarterback, has won two straight games. Running back Najee Harris contributed 114 yards on the ground on 19 attempts, and Wilson went 20-of-28 for 278 passing yards and the touchdown pass to Austin III.

With a 6-2 record and a three-game winning streak, the Steelers lead the AFC North going into their bye week.

Watt maintains that he and his Pittsburgh colleagues are not yet content to sit back and enjoy their success.

The 30-year-old stated, “We (don’t) just worry about overall outcome.” “A 48-yard touchdown or whatever it was, we can’t let it happen. Every week, however, we can improve and make corrections in certain areas.

“We can’t just take a vacation; we’re going on the bye. This week, we must figure out how to improve and sharpen our skills.

With the defeat, the Giants drop to 2-6 and will play the Washington Commanders, who are back on their feet, in Week 9.
