New York Yankees are one win away from elusive World Series after holding off resilient Cleveland Guardians in Game 4 of ALCS

With one more win, the New York Yankees will have won their first World Series since 2009.

In Friday night’s exciting 8-6 victory in Game 4 of the American League Championship Series, the Yanks fought off a tenacious Cleveland Guardians squad.

Driven by home runs from Giancarlo Stanton and Juan Soto, the Yankees took a commanding 3-1 series lead and averted misery for a second consecutive night.

The Yankees offense once again stung Guardians All-Star reliever Emmanuel Clase, who gave up two runs in the ninth inning of the game. Clase allowed consecutive home runs in Game 3, but the Guardians’ clutch late-game hitting salvaged him.

In a best-of-seven postseason series, teams that take a 3-1 lead have won 79 out of 93 occasions, including 37 out of 45 in the LCS.

After the game, Stanton declared, “I want a ring, I want a ring.” “I’ll do whatever it takes to help us win. We have a lot more work to do, but this was a solid first step.
“It was crucial to land the first blow; no lead is safe, but it was good to do so. There was a fantastic back-and-forth fight, and we were just able to keep it going.”
The Yankees were fired up after a heartbreaking Game 3 loss in extra innings. In the first inning, Gleyber Torres led off with a single to set the tone. Soto gave New York an early 2-0 lead moments later with a two-run home drive to center field.

José Ramírez’s RBI sacrifice fly in the bottom of the first inning gave Cleveland a swift response and cut the lead in half. However, New York’s offense kept up its strong play. In the third inning, Yankees catcher Austin Wells increased the advantage to 3-1 with a single home run over 400 feet to center field.

In the bottom of the third, Josh Naylor singled Steven Kwan to left field, cutting the deficit to 3-2 and cutting the game to one run. But there was more to come from the Yankees’ potent middle-of-the-field hitters.

Both Soto and Aaron Judge advanced on Jazz Chisolm Jr.’s sacrifice bunt after Soto drew a walk and Aaron Judge singled. Stanton delivered once more as a result of that. He gave the Yankees a 6-2 lead with his fourth home run of the postseason, a three-run blast to left field.

The crowd at Progressive Field was quieted by Stanton’s bomb as he watched the ball enter the stands. He then strutted around the bases and was met by his teammates at home plate.

Cleveland’s unrelenting attack sparked another possible comeback just when it appeared the Yankees were in control.

The hot-hitting Kwan singled off Yankees reliever Jake Cousins after Brayan Rocchio earned a walk in the seventh inning. Aaron Boone, the manager of the Yankees, tried to limit the damage by turning to closer Clay Holmes as the Guardians threatened.

In the opening game, Holmes faced David Fry, who had struck him out after hitting a walk-off home run off of him in Game 3. José Ramírez, however, made it 6-3 with a double and an RBI. After that, Naylor singled for two runs, cutting the Yankees’ lead to 6-5 and electrifying the Cleveland crowd.

Fry troubled the Yankees once more in the eighth inning, when Cleveland was only one run behind. Bo Naylor scored from third base to tie the game at 6-6 after he hit a comebacker to pitcher Mark Leiter Jr., who struggled to secure the ball and was unable to get the throw cleanly to Anthony Rizzo at first base.

Cleveland managed to get back into the game, but they were unable to find any magic in the ninth inning. Tommy Kahnle of the Yankees got Rocchio to ground out to end the game after allowing two runners to reach base.
Following the game, Cleveland manager Stephen Vogt was questioned about the team’s attitude in anticipation of Saturday’s crucial match.

“We’re going to arrive prepared to win. These guys are just that. “We play our best baseball when we’re facing the wall,” Vogt declared with assurance.

“We don’t give up. This group hasn’t given up. It hasn’t lasted the entire year. This team will arrive with the same mindset and attitude we have every day, which is “we are going to win,” regardless of how we perform the day before or in the days preceding it.

The Yankees are now just one victory away from winning the AL pennant for the first time in fifteen years. Game 5 of the best-of-seven series can be played in Cleveland on Saturday night.

Giancarlo Stanton, a slugger for the Yankees, stated after the game that the club remained committed to the current mission.

“Until we finish it, it feels like nothing,” he remarked. “In my opinion, we haven’t accomplished anything.”

“Although we must finish it tomorrow and move on to the next, we will enjoy this for the time being.”
