Joey Logano won the NASCAR Cup Series for the third time in his career.

At Phoenix Raceway in Avondale, Arizona, Joey Logano won his third NASCAR Cup Series title on Sunday.

Logano took the checkered flag by holding off Ryan Blaney, his teammate and the previous year’s winner, for the last 20 laps. Blaney wanted to win back-to-back titles for the first time since Jimmie Johnson’s five consecutive victories from 2006 to 2010.

Logano’s victory makes him the tenth driver in NASCAR history to win three or more championships. In 2018 and 2022, he had already won the title.

“I love the playoffs, I love it, man,” a beaming Logano declared on the NBC broadcast following the race.

Logano went on, “What a race, what a battle there at the end with Team Penske.” “I had a strong start, managed to pass the No. 12, and had enough long-run speed to keep him at bay.” It’s quite unique to acquire three of them.

After losing in the Round of 12 at Charlotte Motor Speedway last month, Logano’s third championship wasn’t always assured. However, a post-race check revealed that Alex Bowman’s No. 48 car had failed weight standards, therefore disqualifying it. Logano was then given his job back.
Logano secured his place in the championship race a week later by winning the Round of 8 at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

After Blaney’s victory last year, Logano’s victory brings Team Penske a third straight championship, continuing their recent dominance.

After the race, Blaney acknowledged that he was “worn out,” but he still celebrated his teammate’s triumph.

Blaney congratulated him and the 22 squad, Penzoil, and Ford. They put up a fantastic postseason, and I’m glad he won the title if we have to race anyone. Being 1-2 for Roger (Penske) makes me pleased. Roger’s three-in-a-row is incredible. At least it went to a Penske vehicle. What a fight. I hope it was a hit with the fans. Next year, hopefully, we’ll be even more formidable.

Four drivers were left to compete for the championship: Logano, Blaney, William Byron of Hendrick Motorsports, and Tyler Reddick of 23XI Racing, which is owned by NBA Hall of Famer Michael Jordan and three-time Daytona 500 winner Denny Hamlin.

Reddick came in sixth, and Byron came in third.

Logano, 34, had three race victories at the end of the 2024 season.
