The Cleveland Browns trade wide receiver Amari Cooper to the Buffalo Bills.

Amari Cooper, a wide receiver from the Cleveland Browns, was acquired by the Buffalo Bills on Tuesday, bolstering their offensive for the remainder of the season.

In return, the Bills sent a 2025 third-round pick and a 2026 seventh-round pick to Cleveland, along with Cooper and a 2025 sixth-round draft pick.

Soon after the announcement, Cooper wrote on his Instagram story, “Move or rust.”

Filling the vacuum left by Stefon Diggs, who was dealt to the Houston Texans in the offseason, may be a game-changing move for Buffalo.
After adopting a “receiver by committee” strategy for the first six weeks of the season, Cooper comes to upstate New York to take Diggs’ No. 1 receiving spot and makes quarterback Josh Allen a clear top target.

Cooper’s “ability to get separation” will enhance the team’s “flavor on offense,” according to Bills head coach Sean McDermott, who made the announcement following the trade.
McDermott went on to say that Buffalo’s decision to sign Cooper was aided by the presence of Adam Henry, his former Dallas receiving coach.

Adam and I had a conversation about Amari earlier today. Additionally, his remarks were constructive. “You should always follow up with those who have had contact with the player,” McDermott advised.

“If Adam hadn’t given us his approval by saying, ‘Hey, this is what I know about Amari, what type of person he is, what type of player he is,’ we probably wouldn’t have done this.”

The then-Oakland Raiders selected Cooper, an Alabama native, with the fourth overall choice in the 2015 NFL Draft. Cooper has now been dealt three times in his career; in 2019, he was traded from the Raiders to the Dallas Cowboys, and in 2022, he was shipped to the Browns.

The 30-year-old has 9,736 receiving yards and 62 touchdowns in his career and has been selected to the Pro Bowl five times. His two most recent complete seasons in 2022 and 2023 are part of six seasons in which he has received more than 1,000 yards.

Cooper had a career-high 1,250 receiving yards the previous season while playing for a Cleveland club that was eliminated in the first round of the playoffs.
However, with a faltering offense, the Browns are off to a 1-5 start this season. Cooper, who has 24 catches for 250 yards and two touchdowns, has been a dissatisfied player.

“Throughout his more than two seasons with us, Amari has demonstrated dedication, professionalism, and on-field contributions,” said Browns general manager Andrew Berry in a statement on Tuesday. He was a key member of our 2023 playoff squad and helped us create a lot of unforgettable memories. As he pursues his NFL career in Buffalo, we wish him the best.

Cooper now shares a wide receiver room with rookie Keon Coleman, Khalil Shakir, and Dawson Knox and Dalton Kincaid, who are tight ends.

After defeating the New York Jets 23–20 on Monday Night Football, the Bills are off to a far more successful start than the Browns, sitting atop the AFC East with a 4-2 record.

Cooper was moved to the New York Jets on the same day as Davante Adams, another receiver, was traded from the Raiders.
